About
Cindia Reine
Queensland, Australia
Cindia Reine (formerly known as Cyndi Tan) plays drums, performs spoken word, chant and sings Santeria prayers to the Orishas, with a loud heart, smile and rhythm for days. She has played percussion with the Legendary Roots Crew, Ricki Martin, Seal and Delta Goodrem on the Australian Voice, The Tapdogs, La Fiesta Sound-System, HedKandi, Tijuana Cartel, OKA, Declan Kelly and the Rising Sun, Matanza Latin Jazz, and many more. The ‘gratitude’ highlight of Cindia’s musical journey was to chariity-raise the money to donate drums and teach kids in Cambodia, who were survivors of human trafficking. She holds a degree in Contemporary Music, and studied percussion with Pellito el Afrokan (Cuba), Eguie Castrillo (Boston), Berklee Percussion (Boston), and Papillon Alvarez (New York). She also participated in the OKO percussion tour led by Dominic Kirk in 2017, where she studied with local Havana legends Lucumi, Maximino, Lazaro ‘Fimba’ Moliner and members of Los Guiros de San Cristobal. With the connection to her spiritual family in Cuba, Cindia has since returned several times to Havana to continue studies, attend tambor, bembe, guiro, yuka ceremonies and practise the religion.
