Greydis Montero Liranza
Originating from Havana Cuba, Greydis is an award winning and highly accredited dancer with over 20 years experience in the dance world. She has performed and taught throughout the world sharing the hot, sexy and sublime rhythms of Cuba and the Caribbean.
Her national and International experience along with 6 years training at the prestigious and highly competitive Cuban National School of Art ‘ENA’ has allowed her to bring an unparalleled wealth of knowledge and experience to Australian dancers and audiences.
She settled in New Zealand in 2002 after her worldwide tour as choreographer and principal dancer of the hit international show Lady Salsa. She is currently the only professional Cuban Female dancer, choreographer and tutor in New Zealand.
Twelve years on, she has not only been teaching, choreographing & performing all over New Zealand & Australasia, but has found unexpected work & performance opportunities in Film, TV Programs, Theatre, Music Videos, TV Commercials and Radio Shows, including: Shortland Street, Good Morning Show, Breakfast Show, Pukana, Korero Mai, Bro Town, KFM Radio, Disney’s film Wendy Wu’s Home Coming Warrior and the Whale Rider on the stage production among others. From 2002 till 2011 she was a co-founder, director/choreographer and teacher of The Cuban Groove Dance Company and School in Auckland that specializes in Cuban Culture.
In 2008 she was the artistic director and choreographer of the showcase Cuba Viva. She was the director/ choreographer and principal dancer of the International show Cuban Carousel in 2009, as well as the Dance Director of the Jambalaya Festival and part of ‘Tempo Trust’ – the New Zealand Festival of Dance till 2010.
Teaching and performing internationally has enabled Greydis to expand and develop an extensive knowledge of the dance world allowing her to share her expertise and experience.
She has been invited to judge various national & International competitions and selections of many styles of dance, including: Le Bop 1st Open Modern Jive Championships, Tempo Dance Competition, Pukana TV Show and the New Zealand Salsa Championships since her arrival in the country.
Greydis has won several first prizes, national and Internationally in Contemporary and modern dance before her arrival to New Zealand. While in New Zealand she has been awarded with:
- The New Zealand Pacific Salsa Award for her contribution to Latin Music and Dance in 2008
- Best Choreography with International Flavor at Tempo, New Zealand International Dance Festival in 2008
- The New Zealand Cuban Festival Award for her contribution to Cuban Music and Dance in 2012
Greydis is not only a world class exponent of Cuban dance, but a whole range of exhilarating, feel good dances styles and fitness. She is currently the artistic director of Little Cuba Limited and the New Zealand Cuban festival.
