***All Workshops with our esteemed Cuban Dance & Music Masters cater for ALL levels of experience
***ALL Afro-Cuban dances are the Roots of Salsa dance and help you better embody the rhythm and give cultural context to the movements. If you are a professional dancer this will benefit your movement style and give you more fluidity. If you are a novice dancer, you will be amazed how your body will move more gracefully & with more coordination than what you had imagined.
THURSDAY 6th JUNE
7pm-10pm Rumba in the Rum-Bar – Pre-Event Warm-up at Heritage Exchange Hotel with intro to Rumba and Social Dance night
FRIDAY 7th JUNE
5pm Drum Masterclass I – Introduction to Bata sacred Drumming
7pm Welcome to Cuba Social Dance night with Artist Introductions, Rueda de Casino & Follow-me warm-up sessions with Artists
SATURDAY 8th JUNE World Ocean Day
8am Official Welcome to Country & Bata Sacred Drumming Beach Ceremony
9.30am – Registrations Open, Housekeeping, Welcome to Afrekete
10.10am-11.40am Introduction to Afro-Cuban rhythms I – Yoruba
History, culture, music, dance
11.50am-1.00pm Afro-Cuban Rumba Yambu – the courtship dance (Feminine/ Masculine)
Drum Masterclass II in small function room – Bata Sacred Drumming
1.10-2.10pm LUNCH BREAK
2.20-3.20pm Rumba Columbia for Men & Ladies Style for Women
3.30-4.45pm Son Montuno Basics – rhythm & timing/ Son Montuno Open – Partnerwork & Styling (Masculine/ Feminine)
5.00pm CLOSE of WORKSHOPS & Prepare for Cuban Dinner and Under the Sea Show and Dance Night
7.00pm Cuban Dinner (book with restaurant direct by latest 3rd June)
8.00pm Showtime followed by social dancing
