Interactive Community Project “Cuban Improvised Dance”
Our extra special Community Interactive Project is a unique collaborative dance & drum project that has evolved from “Journey of the Drum” with Afro-Cuban Improvised dance accompanied by live bata drumming, ancient rhythms & chants.
2023 marks a special 11th birthday and for the very first time, we are taking the Afrekete Academy to William Ross State School to teach a special interactive improvised dance to students to live percussion, in order for the students to perform with us on our Opening Night in Cuba.
This fulfils our objectives to educate the wider community on the cultural aspects of Cuban culture through dance & music, and empower young people to express their own culture and creativity.
We thank Townsville City Council for helping with realising this unique opportunity through their Community Partnerships Grant Funding.
We also thank Global Dance Collective and Full Throttle Theatre Inc for partnering with us on this project.
