About
Keko Virán – From Buena Vista Dreams to Australia’s Premier Cuban Son Band
🌟 Experience Authentic Cuban Music Magic 🌟
In 2001, Keko Virán embarked on a pilgrimage to the heart of Cuban music.
He walked the streets of Havana, sharing with legends Compay Segundo, Ibrahim Ferrer, and Cachaíto López—the very icons behind the world‑renowned Buena Vista Social Club.
Immersed in the island’s rhythm and soul, Keko returned to Australia with a mission: to bring the earthy, Afro‑Latin roots of modern salsa to Australia.
That vision established Kekoson, Australia’s first and only traditional Cuban Son ensemble officially recognised by a Cuban Ambassador.
The group was conceived as a living laboratory—researching, preserving, and celebrating Afro‑Latin styles while having a blast along the way.
Fronted by Keko’s charismatic presence, Kekoson blends authentic Cuban street‑music energy with the vibrant pulse of the Australian live‑music scene. Their dedication has taken them across the continent and overseas, sharing stages with some of the world’s finest musicians.
